Artist and writer Edmund De Waal in conversation with Will Gompertz

Back

The latest guest speaker in the 'By Design' series in partnership with Sir John Soane's Museum was world renowned artist and writer Edmund De Waal.  Best known for his large-scale installations of porcelain vessels, often created in response to collections and archives or the history of a particular place. His interventions and artworks have been made for a diverse portfolio of historic spaces and museums worldwide.

In conversation with BBC Arts Editor Will Gompertz Edmund explored his lifelong search for the poetry within his pieces.  Explained as the moment of magic that is unplanned and the beauty of the proportions or spaces created when several objects are placed 'in conversation' with each other.

The next speaker in the sold out series of 'By Design' talks is interior design guru Olga Polizzi.  If you have missed the talks or want to revisit a discussion keep an eye out for the podcast series launching this summer.
